I must confess that prior to taking the course I thought that it might be a very long couple of days in the classroom. I share a hangar with an A/P who never charges for a sign off so I had no pressing incentive to take the course. How wrong I was. Now that I have taken the course I have to say that it was time extremely well spent. The days seemed to fly by with one interesting topic after another being discussed. I learned much and would recommend the course to anyone who flies light sport. I feel that what I have learned has already saved me more than the cost of the course. I have been a student my whole life, and I hope to never lose the sense of wonder that keeps me searching out people who can share their knowledge with me. I have been fortunate to study under, and learn from many different people, from all walks of life, during both formal education and casual circumstances alike. That said, you both join a small group of those teachers that have really made a lasting impact on me. It is not an easy thing to convey such complicated material to people who have little or no background in these subjects. Especially when you only have 120 hours to do it. You repeatedly take two dozen people at a time, from all over the world, and in two weeks give them the confidence to take care of aircraft and make themselves, and others, safer. That is an amazing accomplishment and you deserve the reputation that precedes you. You both have unbelievable patience and a talent for making people who just met you feel like you’re old friends and mentors who really care about them. This has been an amazing experience for me. I excelled in college as a student of the social sciences, and later in medicine, but Brian is the first person to really make the physical sciences click in a way that makes me truly excited to continue studying. Thank you for sticking with me until the light bulb went off in my head! Carol, your talent as a teacher is undeniable, my wife is a teacher and I can recognize that special “something” that the good ones have as soon as I meet them. Your encyclopedic knowledge of complicated FAA regulations and ASTM rules is only dwarfed by your unflinching commitment to make sure your students are able to navigate this Byzantine bureaucracy and not be bullied while doing so! You both go above and beyond expectations every step of the way. Be very proud of what you have built at Rainbow Aviation, I see now why you’re the only ones doing this, I don’t think anyone else could compete. They couldn’t come close. Finally, before I go, please thank Jason for me as well. He is an amazing mechanic and a great teacher as well. His willingness to stay late just so someone can have the extra time needed to grasp a concept just adds to his character... Once again, thank you all for this experience, I hope to see you all in October for the parachute and glider modules. P.S. My daughter Laila loves dogs and pigs. So when I told her that Millie snorts when she is sleepy, and showed her a video…it was love at first sight.

The workshop is taught by intelligent, interesting and caring people who are tremendous advocates of general aviation and the Sport Pilot movement. During the 15 days, camaraderie formed quickly, everyone was eager to learn, and patience was the norm. No one was left behind. In the end, Carol and Brian Carpenter did not teach me to be a Repairman, rather they trained me to be a Craftsman.

After thinking about the information presented, I began to realize how much we as pilots and mechanics of “regular” airplanes don’t know. And we don’t know that we don’t know it. Prior to the class, I thought “I have a lot of time in little airplanes—I don’t need this course.” I was wrong. In fact SO wrong.
